Why it fits: Return to Paradise and Bust Up both mix small-town crime cases with offbeat teamwork and romantic complications, keeping the people as engaging as the mysteries. Mackenzie’s squad brings playful banter to baffling murders in Dolphin Cove, while Bust Up’s former couple face bizarre, dangerous cases together, with old feelings adding a sharper ache.
Why it fits
Return to Paradise makes small-town murder cases inviting through quirky teamwork and a guarded detective’s romantic complications; Dustfall also brings a detective back to her coastal hometown to investigate crime. Its drink-spiking assaults, doubted victims, and failing legal system make the mystery far darker and more unsettling.
Why it fits
Return to Paradise offers puzzling small-town whodunits with playful squad banter; Shetland turns local connections into a slower, more brooding investigation. Its detectives uncover buried histories and family suspicion across the islands, trading the sunny, cosy case-solving for a sombre mood and secrets that surface gradually.
Why it fits
The murder-of-the-week comfort in Return to Paradise gives way in Kohrra to a serious case shaped by family secrets and a developing police partnership. Both keep personal complications close to the investigation, but Kohrra follows a murder inside a family home with a heavier, more tense tone than Dolphin Cove’s playful teamwork.
