What to Expect

Horror Collector turns a journey through Japan into a series of ominous encounters with living urban legends. The town-to-town movement gives the horror a restless quality, with Fushigi’s red hood and magical notebook offering a vivid contrast to the dangerous beings he confronts. These are supernatural mysteries with a concrete threat, not simply eerie stories passed around.

Jimmy, Fushigi’s human-faced dog, adds an unsettling oddness to the travelling pair, with a darkly funny edge to his presence. Meanwhile, the pursuit of Himitsu connects the encounters rather than leaving them isolated. Every legend Fushigi seals brings him closer to the girl responsible for bringing these beings into the world, giving the journey a continuing sense of pursuit.

Official premise

The internet is full of creepypastas, cryptid sightings, tales of paranormal activity, and unsolved disappearances. These are mostly rumors and pranks fueled by trolls-entertainment. But the unlucky few learn the hard way that some legends are true. Many of these unfortunate souls are doomed, but their luck may change if they cross paths with the boy in the red hood. He roams from town to town and appears wherever strange things occur. Is he a light in the dark? Or living proof that monsters are all too real...?

Recommendations from Iwamoto-Senpai

Crunchyroll · Tokyo MX • 4 Jul 2026

AnimationMystery

In 1910s Japan, a town is plagued by mysterious black snow. A student from a military school devoted to paranormal research investigates and meets a boy whose apparent illness may actually be supernatural abilities, leading them on a journey across the country to uncover strange mysteries and find others like him.

Why it fits

The pleasure of eerie mysteries unfolding from town to town makes Recommendations from Iwamoto-Senpai a natural next watch after Horror Collector. Fushigi’s living legends bring immediate menace, while Kodo and his young companion uncover strange abilities and unexplained happenings across Japan; this one leans more toward period fantasy and discovery.

Let's go KAIKIGUMI

Crunchyroll · TBS • 5 Jul 2026

ComedyAnime

A man with an extreme fear of ghosts becomes entangled in the supernatural after meeting a fearless girl who leads an organization that polices paranormal activity. She recruits him to help revive the group, drawing him into a series of strange, spooky, and comedic adventures.

Why it fits

Horror Collector and Let’s Go Kaikigumi both turn supernatural encounters into a string of creepy, self-contained adventures, with plenty of room for odd humour. Fushigi faces dangerous living legends alongside the strange presence of Jimmy, while Kaiki-gumi’s ghost-fearing recruit panics at apparitions as his fearless boss charges in, making the scares much more playful.

BLACK TORCH

Crunchyroll · Tokyo MX • 4 Jul 2026

AnimationMystery

Jiro Azuma comes from a ninja lineage and was trained by his grandfather in shinobi arts. He can communicate with animals. His life changes dramatically after meeting an injured black cat named Rago in the forest.

Why it fits

For eerie spirit-monster encounters with a lively companion at the centre, Black Torch offers a more action-heavy follow-up to Horror Collector. Fushigi and Jimmy travel through ominous legends and sealing showdowns, while a boy and his talking cat face supernatural foes in agile ninja fights, with their growing trust adding warmth to the danger.
