Why it fits: Bad Monkey makes crime cases fun to watch by letting absurd situations and real danger share the screen, and Diarra from Detroit has that same irreverent mix. Its sharp, funny schoolteacher gets swept into Detroit mysteries, where murder and goofy complications keep interrupting her plans for a quiet summer.

Why it fits: Bad Monkey and The Lowdown make crime entertaining through stubborn, offbeat leads whose bad decisions bring them face to face with danger. Yancy’s scruffy rule-bending and oddball Florida schemers give way to a Tulsa truth-chaser, neighbourhood characters, and dry jokes beside a rougher edge, with family trouble making this one more bruised.

Why it fits: Bad Monkey turns a murder investigation into an offbeat character comedy, while Winter offers the pleasure of watching very different partners work through a case. Yancy’s mismatched partnership and colourful schemers give way to forensic clues, a meticulous detective, and a haunted pathologist, making this a quieter, more serious watch.
Why it fits
Bad Monkey makes a scruffy detective’s rule-bending investigation funny; Der letzte Bulle turns that appeal into an easygoing cop comedy about an old-school detective returning to work. His 20-year coma gives the cases a fish-out-of-water twist, with less shaggy criminal scheming and more humour from a world that has moved on.
Why it fits
Bad Monkey’s offbeat murder investigation can lead to a more serious procedural in Grace, where an unorthodox detective’s methods put his career at risk. The cases offer slow-building mystery, but the disappearance of his wife brings a persistent note of grief that is far darker than Yancy’s breezy caper.
Why it fits
Bad Monkey’s odd-couple investigation offers comic crime-solving, while A Man on the Inside finds humour in undercover snooping and awkward new friendships. A retired professor investigates inside a retirement community, making this a gentler, lower-menace choice than Yancy’s tangled world of greed and corruption.
