Bad Monkey

Bad Monkey gives its murder mystery a loose, offbeat comic rhythm, following Andrew Yancy through Southern Florida’s crime, greed and corruption without making every turn feel grim. The investigation takes a shaggy route, with absurd situations and colourful schemers giving the case as much personality as puzzle. Yancy’s wish to get his detective’s badge back adds a personal motive to the business of solving a killing.

A strait-laced forensic accountant is an awkward match for Yancy’s scruffy, rule-bending approach. Their partnership gives the second season a running source of friction and humour, with two very different temperaments working the same case. An ambitious state attorney has put them together after Yancy witnesses a fixer’s murder, so his route back to detective work now involves a partner whose methods contrast with his own.
