What to Expect

PremiereLens read

Elle brings a bright, fashion-minded personality to the everyday comedy of high school: crushes, cliques, embarrassing moments, and small victories. Set in 1990s America, its light, episodic storytelling lets confidence develop through ordinary encounters rather than sweeping drama. The humor stays bubbly, with friendship, loyalty, and fearless self-expression giving the awkward moments a warm rather than harsh edge.

Scenes with Elle’s mother and father add a more personal note to the school stories. Both parent-daughter relationships give the comedy room for feeling, while close friendships offer sweetness alongside the laughs. Growing up here means finding her footing with people she cares about, and the series keeps that process optimistic without stripping away the embarrassment of being a teenager.

Strongest Match

Elle makes high school feel bright and funny, even when friendships and crushes get messy, and Heartbreak High shares that lively focus on teens finding their place. Its misfit classmates bring candid jokes and tender first-heartbreak moments, with a franker, more grown-up edge than Elle’s gentle warmth.

A Different World

Netflix • Sep 24, 2026

ComedyDrama

Deborah Wayne enters her freshman year at Hillman College, her parents' HBCU alma mater, where she must escape their shadow and build her own legacy.

Why this pick

Elle’s charm comes from watching a young woman find her voice amid family expectations, friendships, and everyday school comedy, a pleasure A Different World carries into college. Dorm-room banter and affectionate family scenes give its growing pains warmth, while questions of legacy make it more reflective than Elle’s breezy high-school fun.

Hollywood Arts

Netflix • Oct 15, 2026

ComedyDrama

Trina Vega comes back to teach at Hollywood's premier performing arts school, where she was once a student.

Why this pick

Elle turns school life into cheerful comedy about friendships, big personalities, and growing confidence, and Hollywood Arts brings that same easygoing fun to a performing arts campus. Auditions and rehearsals make room for silly jokes, musical numbers, and friendly rivalries, giving it a more theatrical, showbiz flavor than Elle’s everyday high-school scenes.
