Closest matches first, then broader nearby picks.
Why this fits: Stick makes awkwardness funny while leaving room for people to soften, and Best Medicine finds that same warmth in a brilliant doctor who keeps alienating his small-town neighbors. Stick lets a washed-up golfer’s wounded pride collide with a teenager’s talent; Best Medicine adds medical cases and a more prickly workplace comedy.
Why this fits: Stick and Shrinking make room for laughter alongside real hurt, with warmth growing through messy relationships rather than easy fixes. Stick finds comedy in a failed golfer trying to earn a teenager’s trust, while Shrinking turns a grieving therapist’s blunt honesty into chaos among friends, coworkers, and family.
Why this fits: Stick and Colin from Accounts find warmth in flawed adults who have to let other people see their mess before trust can grow. Stick brings the awkward humor of a washed-up golfer coaching a gifted teen; Colin from Accounts is more intimate and romantic, with two adults slowly opening up around an injured dog.
Stick’s feel-good comeback appeal pairs well with Survival of the Thickest’s warm workplace comedy, where career ambition and friendship help carry someone through setbacks. The focus shifts from underdog sports drama to fashion-world comedy and messy dating, with romantic fallout adding a different kind of complication.
Stick’s unlikely mentorship and emotional rescues make room for Trying’s tender family comedy, where a couple’s adoption journey brings warmth and domestic chaos. Rather than an underdog sports comeback, the story centers on relationship strains and the effort to build a family.
Stick’s reluctant redemption gives Everyone Is Doing Great a useful counterpoint in its awkward friendship comedy about stalled careers and post-fame struggles. Instead of sports setbacks and intergenerational mentorship, expect cringe comedy among former actors trying to find their footing again.
