Why this fits: Get Jiro! and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners both turn a brutal near-future city into a stage for stylish action, dark jokes, and people fighting to stay alive. Jiro faces knife fights between rival kitchens, while David’s mercenary crew takes bloody jobs in neon Night City; Edgerunners grows more tragic as the danger closes in.
Why this fits: Get Jiro! and Iron Wok Jan! make food battles feel like outrageous action, with fierce rivals, flashy techniques, and comedy in the middle of the chaos. Jiro’s restaurant world is violent and pulpy, while Jan’s cooking contests bring blazing woks, absurd showmanship, and a louder, more playful kind of danger.
Why this fits: Get Jiro! and Lazarus deliver sleek adult animation, kinetic fights, and characters pushed into dangerous work in a near-future world. Jiro’s clashes are fueled by rival kitchens and revenge, while Lazarus follows a team racing through chases and stunts to stop a deadly threat, with a cooler spy-thriller feel.
Get Jiro! turns rival kitchens into battlegrounds, so Splinter Cell: Deathwatch should appeal through its hard-edged stealth missions and close-quarters fights. It trades culinary revenge and restaurant warfare for covert operations, a veteran mentoring a recruit, and a conspiracy unfolding across the globe.
Get Jiro! makes a cook’s world of rival kitchens a pulpy action arena, while Crowned in a Hundred Days builds its adventure around a restaurant owner’s unlikely royal alliance. Expect magic, allies, and a tyrant showdown instead of lethal food satire, with a livelier fantasy tone and a romantic thread.
Get Jiro! treats food as a weapon in violent revenge battles, and Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai offers similarly outsized action through brutal martial arts duels. The focus shifts from rival kitchens to fighters facing a resurrected legendary swordsman, with bone-crunching combat and a more surreal arena spectacle.
