Why this fits: Best Medicine and Professor T both find comedy in brilliant professionals whose social awkwardness keeps complicating their work and relationships. Professor T’s careful crime puzzles give his sharp mind room to shine, while his compulsions and difficult relationship with his mother keep the cases personal; it is more methodical and darker than the small-town warmth of Best Medicine.
Why this fits: Best Medicine and Shrinking turn professional missteps into funny, uncomfortable moments that gradually make room for connection. In Shrinking, a therapist’s blunt advice spills into his friendships and family life, while Best Medicine gets its awkward laughs from a gifted doctor struggling to fit into a small town; Shrinking is warmer and more openly focused on grief.
Why this fits: Best Medicine and The Audacity both use a capable but difficult professional to make workplace tension funny and personal. The Audacity sets its uneasy jokes amid Silicon Valley ambition and a therapist-client relationship that keeps crossing lines, making it sharper and darker than Best Medicine’s medical mishaps and small-town resistance.
Best Medicine’s abrasive doctor comedy makes room for flawed experts and their awkward social misfires; St. Denis Medical shifts that appeal to a hospital staff ensemble in mockumentary form. Expect more workplace group comedy and feel-good humor than small-town character focus.
Best Medicine’s hidden vulnerability and hard-won connections can lead naturally to Trying’s tender comedy about a couple navigating adoption and domestic chaos. It trades the doctor’s abrasive humor for warmer relationship stories and the emotional complications of building a family.
Best Medicine’s flawed experts and socially awkward humor make room for Beef’s self-sabotaging characters, whose wounded pride fuels a dark revenge spiral. The comedy is sharper and more unsettling, with petty grudges and desperate choices replacing small-town connection.
