What to Expect

PremiereLens read

A crime novelist who treats murder as raw material and her chaotic assistant make for an unlikely investigative pair, and the show plays that contrast for both laughs and plot momentum. The tone leans dark comedy rather than procedural tension, with wit doing most of the heavy lifting across the investigation.

Laure pursues the truth about Yves Cayatte's death not out of justice but out of professional appetite, which gives her a refreshingly cynical edge. The victim was universally despised, his Corsican villa full of family members who each had reason to want him gone, and working through that closed circle of suspects keeps the mystery tightly wound without ever losing the dry humor that runs through the whole thing.

The police conclude it was an accident. But Laure doesn't believe it. Yves was a monster and everyone in his family wanted him dead. ComedyMystery

In New York City, three strangers who live in the same apartment building and are obsessed with solving crimes must work together to solve real murders that have happened in the apartment building. Together, they come up with many ways to solve the cases.

Why this pick

Only Murders in the Building keeps Un meurtre (presque) parfait’s deadpan comedy and whodunit momentum, but with a warmer, neighbor-to-neighbor vibe. You get amateur sleuthing banter, escalating deceptions, and real mystery pressure that builds episode by episode, while the laughs stay close to the danger.

DramaMystery

A recently retired English professor discovers a real knack for investigation and cannot help but interfere with the cases assigned to her police detective son.

Why this pick

Harry Wild shares Un meurtre (presque) parfait’s witty, puzzle-first mystery feel, anchored by a sharp-tongued lead who treats each case like a clever text to decode. The retired academic’s dry humor and constant push-pull with her detective son keep the investigation light on its feet, even when bodies and secrets show up.
