The Listeners(2024)

The Listeners builds its drama almost entirely from the inside out. An English teacher starts hearing a low hum that nobody else can detect, and the show stays close to that private, unverifiable experience rather than reaching for thriller mechanics or supernatural spectacle. Each episode accumulates quietly, with the weight shifting gradually from curiosity to something more unsettling.

Her family and colleagues become a kind of soft pressure: not hostile, but unconvinced, which turns ordinary domestic and professional life into its own source of dread. The gap between what she knows she is experiencing and what the people around her are prepared to accept does more work here than any plot event. It is British drama in a recognizably grounded register, but with that register slowly made strange.
