What to Expect

PremiereLens read

The Dream Life of Mr. Kim mixes wry office comedy with the quiet ache of losing a professional identity. Workplace hierarchy, awkward exchanges, and coworker friendships supply the humor, while Kim Nak-su’s attachment to his managerial title gives those laughs a bittersweet edge. The drama stays low-key, tracing the personal cost of a life built around career and status.

Kim’s wife, family, and old colleagues have to adjust to him without the title that once defined him. Those relationships give his reinvention a practical, sometimes uncomfortable shape: marriage comes under strain, and familiar connections must accommodate a changed man. One connected, unhurried journey allows the aftermath to unfold gradually, with comfort and melancholy sharing space rather than canceling each other out.

Why this pick

The Dream Life of Mr. Kim and We Are All Trying Here both stay close to adults confronting the gap between the life they expected and the one they have.
