What to Expect

PremiereLens read

Solsidan turns dinners, parties and school-run small talk into dry comic trouble. An oversharing neighbor or a well-meaning blunder can turn a minor slight into a full-blown embarrassment, especially when everyone is trying to remain polite. Dialogue and uncomfortable pauses do more of the work than big set pieces, catching the irritation behind a smile and the status anxiety beneath an ordinary conversation.

Couples, friends and in-laws have to keep dealing with one another after each awkward exchange. In Saltsjöbaden’s wealthy seaside surroundings, renovations and social gatherings offer fresh opportunities to compare, offend and misunderstand. Short, self-contained situations give these everyday frictions room to escalate without losing the comedy’s light, observational tone.

Such Brave Girls

ComedyDrama

Dysfunctional family sitcom that follows sisters Josie and Billie and their single mum Deb as they navigate life armed only with poor judgment and self-esteem exclusively tied to people who couldn't care less about them.

Strongest Match

Solsidan and Such Brave Girls find comedy in family members making awkward situations worse, with sharp jokes and plenty of uncomfortable pauses. Solsidan keeps its embarrassment dry and suburban, while the sisters and their mum turn bad dates and bickering into darker, faster family chaos.

Scènes de Ménages

M6 • Aug 24, 2026

Comedy

Three separate couples, each in various stages of life, explore their similarities and differences.

Why this pick

Solsidan makes everyday couple friction funny through familiar habits, petty arguments, and the affection beneath the irritation. Scènes de Ménages serves up the same domestic comedy in quick sketches about chores, small lies, and misunderstandings, with a brisker pace and several couples to dip between.

Rivals

Disney+ • Nov 11, 2026

DramaComedy

Into the cut-throat world of Corinium television comes Declan O'Hara, a mega-star of great glamour and integrity with a radiant feckless wife, a son and two teenage daughters. Living rather too closely across the valley is Rupert Campbell-Black, divorced and as dissolute as ever, and now the Tory Minister for Sport. Declan needs only a few days at Corinium to realise that the Managing Director, Lord Baddingham, is a crook who has recruited him merely to help retain the franchise for Corinium. Baddingham has also enticed Cameron Cook, a gorgeous but domineering executive, to produce Declan's programme. Declan and Cameron detest each other, provoking a storm of controversy into which Rupert plunges with his usual abandon. As a rival group emerges to pitch for the franchise, reputations ripen and decline, true love blossoms and burns, marriages are made and shattered, and sex raises its (delicious) head at almost every throw as, in bed and boardroom, the race is on to capture the Cotswold Crown.

Why this pick

Solsidan gets laughs from well-off people’s social blunders and prickly relationships, while Rivals turns posh bad behavior into glossy, gossipy comedy. Its champagne-fuelled feuds, affairs, and sharp one-liners bring a bigger, bawdier kind of embarrassment than the dry suburban awkwardness of Solsidan.
