Last Seen builds its crime story around a single phone call that arrives ten years too late, or just in time. Ian Ridley has spent a decade as a dispatcher after his daughter Maggie vanished, stripped of his detective rank and left with nothing but certainty that she is still alive. When a distress call comes in that he believes is her voice, the show shifts into something propulsive and uncomfortable: a man with no institutional authority, no badge, and no backup deciding to act anyway.

What makes the search genuinely tense is how little power Ian actually holds. He cannot compel anyone, cannot access case files through official channels, cannot call in favors he no longer has.
