What to Expect

PremiereLens read

Coven Academy mixes fast-moving supernatural action with the awkward comedy of high school. Spell-slinging, chases, and fights share space with homework, crushes, and classmates’ banter, giving the adventure a playful edge even as danger approaches. Its spooky moments stay within a family-friendly register, while a running mystery lets clues and reveals accumulate across episodes rather than leaving each adventure entirely separate.

The apprentices’ close friendships give their growing powers a personal dimension. They are learning magic alongside people whose in-jokes they know and whose everyday problems they share. That familiarity makes the group feel like friends as well as allies: defending New Orleans means facing a threat together without leaving the complications of school life behind.

Strongest Match

Coven Academy and Wednesday make supernatural school life fun through sharp teen banter, strange classmates, and mysteries that keep danger close. Wednesday’s deadpan heroine trades jokes and clashes with rival cliques while following clues through a gothic campus, making it darker and more macabre than the lively friend-group adventures at Coven Academy.

School Spirits

Paramount+ • Jan 28, 2026

MysteryDrama

Maddie, a teen stuck in the afterlife investigating her own disappearance, goes on a crime-solving mission as she adjusts to high-school purgatory.

Why this pick

Coven Academy and School Spirits turn school friendships and supernatural trouble into lively teen mysteries, with humor keeping eerie moments approachable. School Spirits follows a close circle of ghostly classmates through unsettling hallways and a clue-by-clue puzzle, adding more bittersweet sadness than Coven Academy’s spell-slinging adventures.

The Doomies

Disney+ • Jun 26, 2026

AnimationSci-Fi & Fantasy

Follows best friends Bobby and Romy, who mistakenly open a gateway to the underworld and turn their sleepy coastal town into a hotspot for terrifying creatures of doom. As they try to cover up their mess, they get roped into an epic monster mystery, which will see them battle both literal and inner demons.

View show

Why this pick

Coven Academy and The Doomies bring loyal young friends together for fast supernatural adventures, mixing spooky danger with jokes and warmth. The Doomies sends two best friends into goofy monster chases around a coastal town, making its scares sillier and its animated action lighter than Coven Academy’s witchcraft and school mysteries.
