Chumbak(2026)

Chumbak is a warm ensemble comedy set inside a Mumbai row-house where five families share walls, meals, and almost every waking moment. The humor grows directly out of that proximity: borrowed sugar, overheard arguments, and the particular chaos of people who have no real option but to work things out. Small daily crises carry more weight than dramatic turning points, and the tenderness that surfaces between the laughs feels earned rather than announced.

A young author narrates the whole arrangement, giving the storytelling a light, observational quality, as though someone is affectionately cataloguing the mess from just close enough to be part of it. That framing keeps the tone from tipping into sentimentality even when the material gets genuinely moving. The surrogate family that forms across these households is built meal by meal and squabble by squabble, which is exactly what makes it feel real.
