What to Expect

Mitsutaka Oji’s carefully guarded fondness for cute things gives this comedy a small, personal source of suspense: an admired boss has a softer side he would rather keep private. The humour is gentle rather than cutting, treating the effort of protecting an innocent pleasure with affection. His polished reputation makes that private enthusiasm feel all the more endearing.

A visit from Oji’s nephew brings the possibility of discovery into his apartment. That family connection gives the secrecy a different texture from his office image: keeping up appearances becomes a problem at home, too. The prospect of being found out supplies light comic pressure without overwhelming the warm, easygoing mood.

Official premise

A heartwarming comedy about Mitsutaka Oji, a cool and capable middle-aged man who secretly loves cute things, celebrating adults who embrace their passion for adorable items.

Bungo Stray Dogs Wan!

Crunchyroll · Tokyo MX • 2 Jul 2026

ComedyFantasy

Atsushi Nakajima has finally grown accustomed to the crazy lifestyle that comes with being part of the Armed Detective Agency. But even during peaceful periods of time, there is bound to be chaos. As Atsushi, his friends, and the agency's rival group-the Port Mafia-go about their days roaming the streets of Yokohama, there are no limits to the strange situations they are unwillingly thrown into.

Why it fits

The gentle comedy in Uncle's Obsession with Cute Things makes room for everyday awkwardness and affectionate laughs, and Bungo Stray Dogs Wan! finds the same fun in familiar characters acting ridiculous. Mitsutaka tries to keep his love of cute things under wraps, while miniature detectives and mafia rivals treat silly daily mishaps with complete seriousness; the latter is more chaotic and ensemble-driven.

SPY x FAMILY

Hulu · TV Tokyo • 4 Oct 2025

ComedyAction

A spy on an undercover mission gets married and adopts a child as part of his cover. His wife and daughter have secrets of their own, and all three must strive to keep together.

Why it fits

Uncle's Obsession with Cute Things and SPY x FAMILY both turn hidden sides of family life into warm, funny scenes, with secrets creating flustered moments rather than a grim mood. Mitsutaka guards his private love of cute things when his nephew visits, while SPY x FAMILY builds its laughs around a household of secret identities and misunderstandings, with more action and daring rescues.

A Man on the Inside

Netflix • 20 Nov 2025

ComedyCrime

Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a private investigator and becomes a mole in a secret investigation in a nursing home.

Why it fits

The soft-hearted humour of Uncle's Obsession with Cute Things suits A Man on the Inside, where private worries and awkward daily encounters lead to warmth as well as laughs. Mitsutaka tries to protect a personal joy from his nephew's notice, while a retired professor finds friendship among the neighbours he is secretly observing; this comedy is gentler and more grounded.
