What to Expect

Time gives prison drama a tense, emotionally bruising texture, with guilt and violence making difficult choices feel painfully immediate. Season three moves to a young offender institution, where chaplain Marie-Louise’s loss of faith complicates her role. Her clash with veteran officer Bailey after a prison tragedy brings personal doubt into direct conflict with the pressures of custody.

Peter and James are struggling through their first months behind bars, and their unlikely friendship offers a fragile contrast to the surrounding bleakness. Alongside the conflict between the adults, their connection gives this season a more intimate thread: two teenagers facing incarceration while beginning to find some comfort in each other. The grit has a human scale, with distress and connection sharing the same confined world.

Series premise

A visceral, emotional and high-stakes portrayal of life in a British prison where Mark Cobden (Sean Bean) is consumed by guilt after accidentally killing an innocent man. Accepting his four year sentence and separated from his family, he meets Eric McNally (Stephen Graham), a caring prison officer doing his best to protect those in his charge. When one of the most dangerous inmates identifies his weakness, Eric suddenly faces a tormenting choice; his principles or his family. A story of guilt and forgiveness, punishment and penitence, where Eric and Mark both are trapped by the past and unsure of the future.

DramaCrime

The McLusky family are power brokers tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry.

Why it fits

Time’s stark prison life and fragile moments of connection suit the bleak crime drama of Mayor of Kingstown. Where Time stays close to inmates and staff, Mayor of Kingstown widens the view to a family brokering deals among guards, prisoners and rival groups, with violence putting loved ones in danger.

CrimeDrama

Based on the Nirbhaya case, Delhi Crime follows the Delhi Police investigation into the finding of the men who perpetrated this crime.

Why it fits

Time and Delhi Crime both keep the focus on people facing grim choices, with quiet conversations and dogged work carrying as much tension as sudden danger. Time finds that pressure inside prison, where guilt and violence shape fragile friendships; Delhi Crime follows officers methodically through distressing cases, with a more procedural pace.
