What to Expect

PremiereLens read

A professional MMA fighter dropping her seven-year-old into an upscale school called Wonderful Harbor is a setup built for friction, and the show commits to it fully. Her directness collides with the curated self-presentation of influencers and sacrifice-first parents in ways that are consistently funny without turning anyone into a pure punchline. The comedy is rooted in social discomfort rather than broad caricature, and the institution itself gradually reveals problems that push her protective instincts into sharper focus.

Her son's friendships do quiet work across the season, slowly loosening her resistance to a world she never chose and does not trust. That shift earns its warmth because it happens through specific small moments rather than a tidy arc, and she never loses the edge that makes her funny in the first place. The ensemble of competing parents, each with their own agenda and self-image, keeps the social pressure alive around her even as the school's cracks deepen.

Drama

Nepobaby is about the dream of a family, and what it does to a person when this family you dream of comes with enormous wealth and a way of life that is completely different from your own. How are you supposed to suddenly maneuver through this without losing yourself? In the middle of it all stands down-to-earth and naive Emma – in wedding preparations with her boyfriend Nico and single mother Mona.

Why this pick

The Mothers of Penguins makes class friction funny and personal, and Nepobaby brings a quieter version of that discomfort into family life. The fighter has to find her footing among parents from a different world, while Nepobaby follows an ordinary woman adjusting to wealth through marriage, with tension that builds in small social moments rather than big confrontations.

A grieving therapist starts to tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes to people's lives - including his own.

Why this pick

The Mothers of Penguins and Shrinking both mix blunt humor with the warmth of people trying to show up for family while their own lives are messy. The fighter’s directness sparks awkward school-parent scenes, while Shrinking finds laughs in a therapist’s reckless honesty at work and the fallout it brings to his friendships and father-daughter relationship.
