The Altruists(2026)

The Altruists turns financial ambition into a slow-building source of dread. Big ideas and bright confidence give way to unease, with accusations involving $8 billion casting a harsh light on the promise of doing good. The drama is cerebral rather than action-driven, working through ego, rationalization, and the distance between an ideal and its consequences.

Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison bring two versions of youthful idealism to the same enormous ambition. Their shared desire to change finance gives the story a personal pressure beyond the money: belief in a grand project becomes harder to separate from belief in themselves. Confidence and doubt pull against each other as that vision faces allegations of theft.
