What to Expect

PremiereLens read

Tobias Wallace is a chaplain who treats the airport as his personal parish, intervening in crises well outside any job description and doing it with enough conviction that it is hard to argue he is entirely wrong. Each episode brings a new pressure point, and Tobias meets it by ignoring whatever boundary stands between him and the person who needs help, which keeps his position permanently precarious.

Mira Ansari-Cole arrives wanting him gone, and the show builds its drama from that specific professional standoff: two people who are both competent, both certain they are right, and completely unable to coexist. Tobias is simultaneously effective and infuriating, which makes Mira's frustration entirely reasonable even when you are rooting against her. The comedy and the genuine feeling come from the same place, a man whose methods are indefensible and whose results are hard to dismiss.

A dysfunctional team of sidelined MI5 agents works from a shabby department where careers go to stall. When espionage and political threats emerge, the misfits are drawn into dangerous operations that test their loyalty, resourcefulness, and ability to work together.

Why this pick

Slow Horses delivers the same blend of workplace tension and rule-bending trouble as The Airport Chaplain, with careers on the line every time someone crosses a line. You get dry, bitter office warfare, humiliating setbacks, and a slow tightening of problems that keeps danger and bureaucracy tangled together, darker and more relentless.

A young chef from the fine dining world returns to Chicago to run his family's sandwich shop.

Why this pick

The Bear matches The Airport Chaplain with constant pressure in a shared workspace, where people snap, joke, and keep moving while authority tries to control the chaos. Tight scenes, exhausted competence, and family-level loyalty under duress create the same fast eruptions of conflict, but with more heat, mess, and grief close up.
