Seven generations of one family unfold in Macondo, a town where magical occurrences and political violence arrive with the same matter-of-fact weight. The pacing is deliberately expansive and cyclical: names repeat, patterns of love and ruin echo across decades, and the town itself accumulates history rather than shedding it.

Recurring names are not just a quirk but a structural device, so a son's obsession or a daughter's grief carries the memory of everyone who bore that name before. Romantic and family bonds form, collapse, and reform in ways that feel both inevitable and freshly painful each time, because the past is never quite finished pressing on the present.
