What to Expect

PremiereLens read

Each arc of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure restarts with a new Joestar, a new era, and a new set of rules for how power works. Victorian gothic gives way to pulpy 1930s adventure, then to a globe-spanning chase, then a small-town murder mystery, then a mafia infiltration story set in Naples. The tonal range is genuinely wide, and the shift between parts feels less like a sequel and more like a new show built on the same bloodline.

That bloodline is the through-line, a hereditary rivalry between the Joestar family and the forces that keep returning to threaten it, most persistently Dio Brando, who casts a shadow across multiple arcs even when absent. Confrontations tend to resolve through elaborate ability-versus-ability duels where the logic of each power system gets stress-tested to its limit, making the climaxes feel more like puzzles than pure spectacle.

AnimationAction

A band of mutants use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them; they're challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.

Why this pick

X-Men '97 delivers the same animated intensity as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, where abilities turn into real danger and every win costs something. The found-family crew faces constant rejection and tight, serialized tension, and the action hits with sharp character pressure and recurring stakes, darker and more ongoing than JoJo’s chapter-by-chapter arc feel.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

DramaFamily

A young boy known as the Avatar must master the four elemental powers to save the world, and fight against an enemy bent on stopping him.

Why this pick

Avatar: The Last Airbender shares JoJo's Bizarre Adventure’s love of rules-based powers, big set-piece fights, and a team that sticks together under threat. Between monster-filled travel days, jokes that land mid-crisis, and moments of real loss, the pacing builds toward larger conflicts while staying warmer and more intimate than JoJo’s globe-trotting, multi-era spectacle.
