Girl from Nowhere(2018)

Girl from Nowhere runs as an anthology, each episode a standalone case set inside a different school. Nanno arrives, the local rot surfaces, and by the end someone has faced an ironic, often brutal consequence for it. The tone stays cold throughout; there is no warmth cushioning the cruelty on display, and the show commits to that chill consistently.

Paranormal strangeness and recognizable social ugliness sit right next to each other here, bullying and institutional cover-ups treated with the same matter-of-fact register as whatever uncanny thing Nanno turns out to be. That combination keeps each episode slightly off-balance, and the twist endings land harder because the setup feels grounded enough to make the turn genuinely surprising.
