What to Expect

PremiereLens read

Detective Hole builds its mystery across one long investigation, letting a trail of clues gradually bring a disturbing pattern into focus. The big-city setting is cold and bleak, and the suspense accumulates as creeping dread rather than quick resolution. Disturbing crimes and a heavy atmosphere give the serial-killer hunt a dark, brooding texture.

Harry Hole’s rivalry with Tom Waaler makes the police workplace dangerous in its own right. A corrupt colleague can obstruct the pursuit of justice from inside the force, turning questions of loyalty into practical problems for the investigation. Harry’s brilliance offers no protection from his self-destructive habits, either; his personal troubles carry costs alongside the case, complicating an already morally murky pursuit.

Strongest Match

Detective Hole and Nocturne both build dark, steadily tightening crime stories around people whose private lives make the danger harder to contain. Why this pick

Detective Hole and Grace center on haunted detectives whose personal troubles follow them into cases, with brooding crime drama balanced by flashes of dry humor. Harry’s bad habits strain his work, while Grace gives its lead a younger partner and room for their banter as a cold case unfolds; Grace is less graphic and more measured.

The Blame

ITVX • Sep 20, 2026

DramaCrime

Two detectives fall in love while investigating a murder, until one becomes a suspect.

View show

Why this pick

Detective Hole and The Blame make trust between colleagues part of the crime story, building unease through tense conversations and secrets close to home. Harry faces a dangerous rival inside the force, while The Blame turns a detective romance into suspicion between partners; its intimate relationship drama is more central than the hunt itself.
